Public member Ashley Peters was appointed to the Outdoor Heritage Council by the Governor in 2019 and again in 2023. Her current four year term ends January 2027.
Ashley found her passion for conservation more than fifteen years ago while constructing hiking trails and portages in Superior National Forest, the Boundary Waters, and also Southeast Alaska. During that time, she collaborated with a wide range of state and federal agencies on planning and implementing land management projects. Ashley holds a master's from the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs and she currently works in communications at the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment.
Prior to her work at the University, she was the national Director of Communications & Marketing at the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society. Ashley has also worked for the National Audubon Society in a number of communications and public engagement roles and, before that, she worked as a communications specialist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Parks & Trails division. In her free time, Ashley enjoys fly fishing, upland bird hunting, birding, and writing about outdoor pursuits. She is also active in her community, serving on local and national nonprofit boards that support conservation and promote outdoor recreation.St. Paul, MN
